Diaper Genie II
Before giving birth to our baby girl, we were graced by our friends' generosity. One of the baby gifts we got was the Diaper Genie II by Playtex. This "Advanced Disposal System" allows you to dispose of diapers and keep your home a clean environment free of odor.
When I first saw the "Advanced Disposal System" on the box, I thought it was some awesome electronic gadget that compacts the diapers (I am a man after all). But after opening the box, I realized that it is really just a glorified trashcan, specifically made for diapers. There is no electronics and nothing really technologically interesting.
The Diaper Genie II is simply a plastic can that can take a special Diaper Genie plastic bag roll. It has a simple spring sealing clamp that prevents odor from escaping after you push the diaper through the clamp. A secondary lid seals the plastic cannister completely. Inside the can, there is a childproof razor cutter that allows you to cut and seal the plastic bag when the plastic cannister becomes full.
I wouldn't say that the Diaper Genie II is a must have item for newborns. But I'm sure my wife would strongly disagree; my sense of smell is far worse than hers. I got to admit that the Diaper Genie II makes our bathroom feel much cleaner than the first few days before we opened up the box. While it's possible, and fairly simple, to jury-rig your own "Diaper Genie" trash can, the relatively low-cost of a Diaper Genie II might sway you away.
