State ID for Schedule BI am doing my 2009 taxes with TurboTax Home & Business. Checking my entries at the end of the Federal questions, it asked me to check the following: "Schedule B -- Form 1099-INT ([investment company]): State ID for Box 8 in which the interest was earned should be entered for [investment company]. If mroe than one state, see Help." This confused me to no end as I looked all over for the State ID. I wish the software would have a pull down for all of the state and I could just select the ID. Searching for "State ID" in the TurboTax software got me "The search phrase you entered could not be found." Searching online provide virtually no answer. One of the unaccepted answer on this "Tax exempt interest - Federal only, not state?" came real close. Later, learned that I could click the "Help Center" button on TurboTax to the real answer, which is: "Enter the 2-letter postal abbreviation of the state in which the interest was earned." Why couldn't they just say that in the first place? Why use a cryptic language like "State ID" when they could just say 2-letter postal abbreviation? Chieh Cheng
